Event Information: Have you ever wondered what it takes to become an Olympian?  The amount of time spent in physical training while trying to balancing life’s responsibilities? And most importantly, how to maintain your focus and desire for competition given the daily grind of training.  That training is even more intense if you are training for the Decathlon which is comprised of 10 multi-varied events. Zach Ziemek will give you his perspective on what it takes to be that Olympian.

Speaker Information: Zach Ziemek represented The United States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in the Decathlon (Track and Field). The Decathlon is 10 events over the course of two days of competition. It includes: 100 meter dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 400 Meter Dash, 110 meter Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, and 1500 meter run. During his Olympics debut, Zach finished seventh overall and second for the United States with a score of 8392.

Zach competed collegiately at the University of Wisconsin. As a Badger, Ziemek won four Big Ten titles and set the Big Ten record in both the indoor heptathlon and decathlon. The five-time All-American also competed at six NCAA Championships, highlighted by winning the indoor heptathlon at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship with a Big Ten record of 6,173 points and finishing runner-up in the decathlon in 2016. The Itasca, Illinois native also qualified in the decathlon for the 2015 and 2017 IAAF World Championships. Zach currently resides and trains full time in the Madison area and is sponsored by Adidas.
